Review of nepo baby meets perfect man modern romance, The Long Game by Elena Armas

In The Long Game, by Elena Armas, heroine Adalyn is the daughter of a man who owns a major league soccer team.  Her dream is to take over the team, apparently because that would mean daddy approves of her, since there is nothing in the book to indicate that she (or Armas) is passionate about soccer, or sports in general, or making money, or running a major corporation.

Adalyn seems sorta kinda competent.  When she is shuffled off to a small country town (miraculously free of real poverty, addiction issues, or any other problems) to spend a few hours a week overseeing a little girls' soccer team, we are told she takes notes on the players and what their strengths and weaknesses are.  And she knows enough about the Big Leagues to recognize hero Cameron, a star soccer player gone underground.  In other words, she has the skills that plenty of people who would give anything to rise in a career with a major sports club have.  Adelyn gets to be second in command of the organization because her father owns the team.

But there are skills that she decidedly does not have.  When she is sent to the small town from her home in Miami, it is a rush job and she doesn't have a clear idea of where she's going, so it's not surprising that she did not know to pack appropriate clothes (for example, shoes that are not designer high heels, or, you know, a jacket) for a rural area going into the winter months.  But when she gets there, keeps on literally falling because of her inappropriate shoes, freezing because she did not pack warm clothes, and doesn't, you know, use some of her nepo money to buy clothes, it makes me think that she should not be running a duck duck goose game, much less a multimillion dollar organization.

Luckily, hunky Cameron steps in, buys her clothes (even getting her sizes right), thinks that she is brilliant for some reason, and they live happily ever after.

One more note that I cannot let go:  Adalyn is staying in a crappy Airbnb, more like a tool shed, and we are told that her bed is "infested" so she has to sleep on the floor.  First, ugh, gag me, disgusting.  Second, what is it infested with?  Bed bugs?  If so, she's got them now.  Mice?  Then sleeping on the floor won't help.  What is going on here?
